Tarlo lets you scan a grocery product and see whether it meets the rules you choose. We built Tarlo to be useful without knowing who you are. This policy explains, in plain language, what information the app handles and why. It does not require an account, your name, or your email to work.
Information we handle
- An anonymous app identifier. When you first open Tarlo, the app creates a random identifier so it can remember your settings and your scans. It is not linked to your name, email, or phone number.
- Scan history and rules you create in the app. The products you scan, the verdicts shown, and the rules you turn on or off.
- Anonymous usage and crash diagnostics, which may include session recordings, collected through a third-party analytics provider. This helps us understand how the app is used and fix problems. It is not used to identify you.
- Approximate location — only when you choose to share it, and only to identify the store you are in. There is no background location, no precise-location tracking, no ads, and no advertising identifier.
- Photos you choose to submit (for example, to help add or correct a product) are kept on third-party cloud storage so we can review and use them to improve the product database.
How we use this information
- To run the app — look up products and compute a verdict against the rules you chose.
- To diagnose crashes and improve how the app works.
- To identify the store you are in, when you ask us to.
What we don’t do
- We don’t show ads or use an advertising identifier.
- We don’t sell your information.
- We don’t track your location in the background or collect precise location.
Sharing
We share information only with the service providers that help us run the app (such as hosting, cloud storage, and analytics), under confidentiality obligations and only as needed to provide the service. We may disclose information if required by law.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep information only as long as needed to provide and improve the app. You can ask us to delete the data associated with your app identifier at any time by emailing support@tarloapp.com.
Children
Tarlo is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
How verdicts work
Tarlo checks a product against the rules you turn on — for example, avoiding certain additives, or flagging items that are high in sodium or sugars by the applicable front-of-package threshold. A verdict reflects your own rules; it is informational and not medical advice. Product information can be incomplete or out of date, so always verify the product’s physical label.
Product data
Product information comes from public sources, including Open Food Facts, made available under the Open Database License (ODbL).
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll change the “last updated” date above when we do.
