Frequently asked

What is Tarlo?

Tarlo lets you scan a grocery product’s barcode and instantly see whether it meets the rules you choose — like avoiding synthetic dyes or flagging items high in sodium. It’s your rules, not a universal score.

How do verdicts work?

You turn on the rules you care about. On each scan, Tarlo checks the product against exactly those rules and shows a clear pass or fail, plus the precise reason (for example, a flagged ingredient or a nutrient above its threshold). Verdicts are informational only — not medical advice. Always verify the label.

Why does a product show “not enough data”?

Some products in public data sources are missing ingredients or nutrition values, so Tarlo can’t decide for every rule. We never guess — when the data isn’t there, we say so.

How do I change my rules?

Open the app’s rule settings and toggle any rule on or off. New users start with synthetic dyes and high-fructose corn syrup on by default.

Where does the product data come from?

From public sources, including Open Food Facts, made available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Data can be incomplete or out of date, so always check the physical label.

How do I delete my data?

Email support@tarloapp.com and we’ll delete the data associated with your anonymous app identifier.

Data deletion

Tarlo works without an account. To delete the data tied to your anonymous app identifier, email support@tarloapp.com from anywhere and we’ll take care of it.
