These terms govern your use of the Tarlo app and this website (together, “Tarlo”). By using Tarlo, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Tarlo.
What Tarlo does
Tarlo lets you scan a grocery product and see whether it meets rules you choose (for example, avoiding certain additives, or flagging items high in sodium or sugars). It may also show product details and, over time, suggest alternatives.
Informational only — not medical advice
Verdicts reflect the rules you turn on and are provided for general information only. Tarlo does not provide medical, dietary, or health advice, and nothing in the app is a substitute for professional advice or for reading the product’s physical label. Product information may be incomplete, out of date, or inaccurate — always verify the label before relying on it.
Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Tarlo.
Acceptable use
- Don’t misuse, disrupt, or attempt to break the service.
- Don’t use Tarlo to violate any law or the rights of others.
- Don’t submit content you don’t have the right to share.
Content you submit
If you submit content (such as a product photo or a correction), you confirm you have the right to do so, and you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use it to operate and improve Tarlo, including improving the product database.
Our content
Tarlo’s name, logo, design, and software are owned by us and protected by applicable laws. These terms don’t grant you any rights to them except to use the app as intended.
Third-party data
Product information comes from public sources, including Open Food Facts, made available under the Open Database License (ODbL). Such data is provided “as is.”
No warranty
Tarlo is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We don’t warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any information is accurate or complete.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any decisions you make based on the app. Your use of Tarlo is at your own discretion and risk.
Changes
We may update Tarlo or these terms from time to time. We’ll change the “last updated” date above when we change the terms; continued use means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Canada and the province in which we operate.
